Springboard's Diversion Program has been successfully running for over ten years and is now joined by five new pilot community justice programs!
These programs each provide a community-based justice alternative to proceeding with criminal charges through formal court proceedings. Eligible participants are normally adult offenders of low-level offences (such as theft, mischief, minor assaults or possession of under thirty grams of marijuana.)
Our two newest services:
Community Justice Worker Programs (Old City Hall and Scarborough Court) This program provides community-based sanctions as an alternative to prosecution for some low-risk adult offenders who have committed low-level offenses.
Old City Hall Justice Committee
The Old City Hall Justice Committee Program brings together adult accused, victims and trained community volunteers to negotiate a suitable outcome for all parties.
Our three new support programs:
All referrals to these programs must be made by the Community Justice worker located at each of five Toronto court houses. The programs are facilitated through our 976 College Street location. |

Stop Shoptheft Program
The Stop Shoptheft Program explores the offence of shoplifting itself, examining the reasons why people shoplift and the personal and social consequences of this behaviour, including issues related to police and criminal records. It may be offered in a one-to-one setting or in a workshop format .The workshop is a one-day offence-based program that lasts approximately 2.5 hours.
Drug and Alcohol Self Check Up
The Drug /Alcohol Self CHeck-up (DASCH) is a brief, one- or two-session intervention designed to be proportional to the offences committed by offenders referred to the Community Justice Program. DASCH utilizes three drug and alcohol assessment tools which can be completed in less than one hour and provide an individual with a report about his or her substance use.
KePERR employment readiness program (adapted for this project)
The KePERR program addresses topics on readiness for work as well as finding and keeping employment. It includes four workshops, each lasting approximately three hours. Workshops are facilitated by qualified employment counselors and job developers and may be assigned individually or in combination depending on the individual's needs.
