Eligible participants are normally adult first-time
offenders charges with nonviolent offenses (such as theft, mischief, shoplifting
or simple possession of marijuana.)
The individual must accept responsibility for his
or her offense and satisfy specific program requirements in order
to successfully complete a program and have his or her charge
withdrawn by the court.
Diversion and community justice programs programs provide proportional, accountable
alternatives to costly court proceedings and help Ontario courts
focus scarce resources on more serious crimes. Community justice
initiatives save tax dollars: programs cost about 90% less than
processing offenders through the courts.
Springboard's Diversion Programs have enjoyed immense
success, assisting over 1,500 clients annually and with 97% of participants
successfully completing their sanctions. |
